You can get updated at any time. Just remember that expired at midnight on Sunday so if you go to the DMV to get renewed technically driving without a valid license and if you do not receive or get in an accident, boned, big time. After Sunday, it should not lead to a renewed commitment.

Your license expires on your birthday, no matter what day it falls on the calendar. There is no deadline, but no penalty for non-renewal is not timely or quoted, of course, for driving with an expired license.

I live in California if I am lazy and waited nearly 3 weeks after the due date and when it is finally replaced, at no additional cost penalties.

You can renew your license at any time within 60 or 90 days before the deadline. Here, your grace period is to be set. Get in before it renews Sunday.
